What is the Clean Jobs Plan?

The Climate Council has undertaken groundbreaking modelling work with independent economic modelling experts Alpha Beta, to identify the top climate solutions in every state and territory in Australia, that can get Australians back to work and slash our carbon pollution.

The Clean Jobs plan is focused on delivering jobs where they are needed, to people who need them most.

Why do we need to create clean jobs now?

The pandemic has created an urgent need for State, Territory and Federal Governments  to invest in job creation. But this is an opportunity to tackle the climate and economic crises – together.

What are the Clean Job opportunities in Tasmania?

The projects, identified in the Clean Jobs Plan, would directly create more than 2,000 jobs in Tasmania, including:

  • 400 - 500 jobs in installing utility-scale renewable energy.
  • 300 - 400 jobs in ecosystem restoration and revegetation
  • 100 - 150 in green hydrogen facilities

Tasmania has been a national leader in renewable energy generation and recently set a new target to reach 200 per cent renewables by 2040. The Clean Jobs Plan can help the government reach its target.

Not only that, but protecting Tasmania’s world-heritage coastline and forest ecosystems is critical for our economy, and our state.

Email Tips +

  • It’s better to add to and edit the email as much as possible and write your own subject line - to ensure it lands in your MP’s inbox and reflects what you want to say. Just remember, while it's important to be passionate, always be respectful and don't use inappropriate or threatening language.

  • Add a personal message to your email, to explain why this issue is important to you. You can do this by including a relevant personal anecdote or experience. For example, have you recently lost your job because of COVID-19? Would you be interested in a job in a clean energy industry if it was available to you? This will help make the issue real and tangible for your MP.

  • If your MP has made any positive steps on renewable energy and climate change, you can thank them for the action they have already taken. But make sure to make it clear what else you would like them to do.

Be sure to leave your name and contact details at the bottom, so your MP can get back to you with a response.
