Dear Minister,

I am a NSW resident who supports frequent, convenient and reliable transport services within our community.

As you would be well aware, shared and active transport provides our community with many benefits, including reducing cost of living and congestion pressures, cleaning up the air we breathe, and protecting us from dangerous climate pollution.

A recent report from the Climate Council shows that many suburbs in the middle and outer areas of Sydney, like mine, are currently underserved by public transport, with nearly a third of the city's population missing out on good access. This means that many of us are largely stuck relying on polluting, expensive private vehicles, because no other options are available. The Blue Mountains, Penrith and Campbelltown are identified as areas that urgently require improved government planning and investment, but these are clearly just one part of a much broader opportunity. We need a better way.

I am asking you to act urgently to deliver better, more frequent shared and active transport services in areas of Sydney that need it the most.

I encourage you to review the Climate Council’s analysis and consider what interventions your Government can take to deliver a best practice Shared Transport Service Standard, providing our whole community with services that operate at least every 15 minutes from 7am to 7pm within 800 metres of every home. This would provide genuine alternatives for people like me, who want better travel choices.

Increasing uptake of shared and active transport is not only one of the best ways that NSW can cut climate pollution this decade - it’s also a great way to build quieter and cleaner neighbourhoods, and make our roads safer. I hope I can count on your support to make this an increased focus for your Government moving forward.
