I’m writing to you today as my local representative.

It’s been great to see the announcement of a New Vehicle Efficiency Standard for Australia - one that will give people like me access to a wider range of low and zero emission cars and stop millions of tonnes of climate pollution from entering our air.

This is the kind of practical climate action that we need now. If we keep cutting climate pollution further and faster this decade, we can stem the rapid rise of global heating that drives worsening extreme weather and threatens our kids’ future.

Since the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard was announced, the big car companies have had a lot to say about what Aussie drivers want. I’m writing to let you know that I support this important policy and the benefits it will deliver for our community in cleaner air and cheaper petrol bills. Polling from the Climate Council shows there’s plenty more Aussies like me who do too.

I’m asking you to make sure our voices are represented in Parliament when the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard is debated in the coming weeks.

As we approach the halfway mark of the make-or-break decade for climate action, we have no time to lose. I hope you’ll use your vote in Parliament to stand up against the onslaught of delaying tactics and lies we’ve seen about this standard.
