Every three minutes, an area the size of the Gabba is bulldozed in Queensland.

That’s hundreds of thousands of hectares of beautiful bushland, rainforest, savanna and heathland - some hundreds of years old - wiped out each year.

Now, clearing rates have reached crisis point. In 2015-16, the amount of vegetation cleared was equivalent to roughly half that cleared in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest in 2016. Tree by tree, this silent destruction is contributing daily to our greenhouse pollution - with Queensland generating the lion’s share of Australia’s land use emissions.

The proposed amendments would lead to a tripling of the amount of vegetation protected by regulation. This would have a big impact in cutting Queensland’s greenhouse pollution.
