NEW REPORT: Leaders and Legends: Thousands of Clean Jobs for Queenslanders

Queensland is famous for its sunshine, friendly people and relaxed way of life. And the Climate Council's new report, Leaders and Legends: Thousands of Clean Jobs for Queenslanders, shows that Queensland also has the natural resources to become a world leader in renewable energy.

The report finds that accelerating the development of Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) will give Queensland a global competitive advantage in energy-intensive industries, create jobs for Queenslanders, and new export opportunities.

This comes on top of The Clean Jobs Plan, broader research from the Climate Council which found that 76,000 good, secure, well-paying jobs for Australian workers can be created now, while also rapidly driving down our emissions and injecting billions into the economy.

What is the Clean Jobs Plan?

The Climate Council has undertaken groundbreaking modelling work with independent economic modelling experts Alpha Beta, to identify the top climate solutions in every state and territory in Australia, that can get Australians back to work and slash our carbon pollution.

The Clean Jobs plan is focused on delivering jobs where they are needed, to people who need them most.

Why do we need to create clean jobs now?

The pandemic has created an urgent need for State, Territory and Federal Governments to invest in job creation. But this is an opportunity to tackle the climate and economic crises – together.

What are the Clean Job opportunities in Queensland?

These projects, if adopted as part of our state’s COVID-19 recovery plans, would directly create up to 20,000 jobs in Queensland including:

  • 5,000 – 5,500 jobs in ecosystem restoration and revegetation.
  • 1,800 – 2,200 jobs in installing utility-scale renewable energy.
  • 1,200 – 1,600 jobs in residential retro-fitting.

Email Tips +

  • It’s better to add to and edit the email as much as possible and write your own subject line - to ensure it lands in your MP’s inbox and reflects what you want to say. Just remember, while it's important to be passionate, always be respectful and don't use inappropriate or threatening language.

  • Add a personal message to your email, to explain why this issue is important to you. You can do this by including a relevant personal anecdote or experience. For example, have you recently lost your job because of COVID-19? Would you be interested in a job in a clean energy industry if it was available to you? This will help make the issue real and tangible for your MP.

  • If your MP has made any positive steps on renewable energy and climate change, you can thank them for the action they have already taken. But make sure to make it clear what else you would like them to do.

Be sure to leave your name and contact details at the bottom, so your MP can get back to you with a response.
