The Australian Government has introduced a new Bill (Electoral Funding and Disclosure Reform) that, if passed, could devastate the work of charities, including The Climate Council, by:

Shutting down voices of community advocates
Imposing unnecessary restrictions on donations
Burying charities in paperwork and subjecting them to harsh penalties, including up to 10 years' imprisonment
Severely limiting your ability to participate in public debate

This Bill is a direct attack on democracy in Australia. We can't let them stop us - the stakes are too high.

I'm writing to express my opposition to the Electoral Legislation Amendment (Electoral Funding and Disclosure Reform) Bill 2017.

I am concerned that this proposed legislation could severely limit the ability of charities to advocate for action on an issue, and subject them to harsh and unnecessary penalties.

This Bill will silence my voice in public debate, by limiting the ability of charities I support to talk openly about and push for action on issues I care about, like climate change.

It could also threaten charities' community funding, by crippling them with burdensome administrative work. People could be required to complete a statutory declaration and have it signed by a Justice of the Peace, for donating just over $4.80 a week.

Under these proposed laws, charities could be stuck behind paperwork, unable to undertake their core work.

This Bill goes against our democratic principles in Australia and for this reason I am asking you to oppose it. I urge you to support and protect charities and the important work that they do.

How we use the data you enter on this form

While the privacy laws of the country in which personal information is stored or transferred may be different from those in your country, we will always have safeguards in place when storing or transferring personal information. We will never sell, rent, loan or in any other way pass your information on to other parties other than to provide this service to you and The Campaigner.

The personal information collected by Do Gooder is held subject to a Data Processing Agreement between Do Gooder and The Campaigner in compliance with the EU's GDPR and Australian law.
